How to Involve, Engage, and Empower Students
This new edition of Achieving Personal and Academic Success
is customizable to your school! Your school name is on the
front cover. Inside, you may include information on your Registrar’s
Office, Library, Medical, Student Services, and your Syllabus.
The key ideas in APAS include:
- Behaviors need to be goal-directed.
- Each
individual determines their life success—if they
are self-responsible, they increase their chance of reaching
their goals.
- Individuals learn in different ways. To be successful,
they must become aware of their style of taking in information
and use that to their advantage while they work to develop
their
other modalities.
- With self-awareness, knowledge, and support,
individuals can gain direction and focus in their lives
and attain
the successes
they want.
- Thinking critically is an essential skill in
school and life.
Students are more likely to remain in school if they feel
a part of or are connected to the institution. Learning about
the campus, using the student resources that are available,
selecting a major, and getting to know instructors—all
make a difference.
