The AuthorsMost of the creative ideas for the IMaST curriculum came from the “best of the best in the Midwest.” An average of 12 middle school teachers gathered each of nine summers to share their ideas with the project staff. A total of 37 teachers from the states of FL, IL, IN, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, TX, and WI were involved. For ten years, the IMaST project had full-time curriculum specialists on staff representing the disciplines of mathematics, science, social studies, and technology education. These professionals took the ideas from teachers, tested them in labs, and prepared field-test materials. Then, using feedback from the field-test sites, improved the curriculum. All IMaST modules were tested in schools over a three-year period. The curriculum development process was directed by Dr. Franzie Loepp
(technology education), with the support of Drs. Robert Fisher and Marilyn
Morey (science education), and Drs. Sherry Meier and Georgia Cobbs (mathematics
education). Dr. Richard Satchwell managed the IMaST project.
